Bush’s apocalypse is now; Bernice Mason; Beaver County Times; July 26, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“Most Bible readers know that ‘great trouble’ will come upon the earth in the last days - ‘wars and rumors of wars, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in diverse places.’

“Who would, have thought, however, that our own so-called ‘Christian president’ would be the catalyst to activate the forces of evil and set in motion the dreaded turmoil that is occurring in the Middle East?”

[RWC] Do Ms. Mason’s memory and her history books only go back to the day President Bush took office?

Ms. Mason seems to be ignorant of the fact that “the forces of evil” (Islamic terrorists) have been attacking and killing us for nearly three decades.  Remember Tehran in 1979?  Beirut twice in 1983?  Pan Am 103 in 1988?

Did Ms. Mason forget the following occurred BEFORE we got serious about going after terrorists?

·        1993: World Trade Center - six dead civilians

·        1993: U.S. peacekeepers in Somalia - 18 dead soldiers

·        1996: Khobar Towers military barracks in Saudi Arabia - 19 dead soldiers

·        1998: On February 23rd, Osama bin Laden declared war on the United States.

·        1998: U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania - 224 dead African civilians

·         2000: USS Cole - 17 dead sailors

·        2001: Pentagon, World Trade Center, and Pennsylvania – approximately 3,000 dead civilians

When in the last century has the Middle East not been in turmoil?

“President Bush is a mockery to both democracy and Christianity.  He is more like the first horseman of the Apocalypse - the rider on the white horse who went forth ‘conquering and to conquer.’  Bush, in vowing to annihilate the ‘axis of evil,’ is, in fact, trying to do what only the Lord Jesus can and will do someday.”

[RWC] I never heard President Bush vow “to annihilate the ‘axis of evil.’”  In his 2002 State of the Union speech, President Bush said, “States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world.  By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger.  They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred.  They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States.  In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic.”

Regarding the comment that President Bush is “trying to do what only the Lord Jesus can and will do someday,” this reminds me of the quote saying, “All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing.”

“Moreover, a crown was given to the rider on the white horse.

“Since 2000, when the ‘presidential crown of the White House’ was given to Bush by our Supreme Court, we have had nothing but trouble and anxiety.  Because of our paralyzed Congress and the president’s immoral, preemptive ‘shock-and-awe’ strikes in Iraq, more terrorists have been created and more people of the Earth have come to hate - and to fear - our beloved country.”

[RWC] What “presidential crown?”  I watched the inauguration ceremony and saw no crown. <g>

Regarding the “given to Bush by our Supreme Court” comment, please read “Bush lost in 2000 – not.”

Regarding “we have had nothing but trouble and anxiety,” who first attacked whom, Ms. Mason?

Regarding “more terrorists have been created,” what a crock!  Since we did nothing to instigate the attacks against us, what does Ms. Mason want us to do?  Just sit here and die?

“Furthermore, the whole world is left in a vacuum because the United States, in joining the forces of evil, has forfeited its role as the world’s strongest peacemaker.”

[RWC] If we aren’t “the world’s strongest peacemaker,” Ms. Mason, who is?

“What a horrible price to pay for Bush’s ‘bring ‘em on’ arrogance and irresponsibility.”

[RWC] Two letters with the “Bring it on” quote on the same day?  I guess it could be a coincidence.

“Things can only get worse.”

[RWC] You’ll note that nowhere in her rant did Ms. Mason offer a solution.
