If this be treason; David V. Matthews; Beaver County Times; February 23, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“‘Forget about impeachment, hang Clinton for treason!’

“So wrote a right-wing letter writer in The Times on Dec. 24, 1998.”

[RWC] I went to CCBC to read the full letter.  The author was Kathryn L. Chabala.  I don’t know if she’s “right-wing,” but after reading the entire letter I believe it’s fair to say she was likely a serial Clinton basher.  The letter was full of anti-Clinton, anti-Hollywood, and anti-Tony Blair nonsense on several topics.  For comparison, think of letters from folks like Vince Avedon, Lonzie Cox, et cetera when they discuss President Bush.

After I read the letter, I was surprised the Times printed it.  Not only did Ms. Chabala lead off with “hang Clinton,” she finished with “I cry out to you.  America, hang him, hang him high, and hang him now – before it’s too late.”  I could be wrong, but based on her letter it’s my opinion Ms. Chabala was/is seriously disturbed.

I wonder how long Mr. Matthews had to search for an idiotic letter like this so he could imply the author represented “right-wingers.”

“She was referring to Bill Clinton’s order eight days earlier for the military to bomb alleged WMD sites in Iraq.

“She contended that the ‘massacre of the innocent women and children of Iraq’ was, among other things, illegal.  ‘Bombing another country is an act of war,’ and since Congress had not formally declared war, as the Constitution requires, Clinton had committed ‘an act of treason!’

“Try to imagine any right-winger today demanding we hang George W. Bush for treason.  Bush declared war against Iraq without a formal declaration from Congress, after all.”

[RWC] I guess Mr. Matthews forgot about the Iraq War Resolution enacted by Congress.

“In fact, try to imagine any right-winger today bemoaning Bush’s ‘massacre of the innocent women and children of Iraq.’”

[RWC] That’s correct.  “Right-wingers” like the innocent to die.

“By the way, I do not want to execute Bush or anyone else for treason.”

[RWC] Isn’t that generous of Mr. Matthews, even though he appears to believe President Bush committed treason?

I wonder why Mr. Matthews failed to note the lefty wackos who’ve printed t-shirts with President Bush in a gun sight and written books and plays that “joked” about assassinating President Bush.
