Let’s talk about telling the truth; William E. McClarey; Beaver County Times; October 23, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“I could not agree more with Friday letter writer Rita Gavert that we need a leader who tells the truth.

“What was President Bush’s first reason for invading Iraq against all the world’s advice, except his Texas yes-men and Halliburton cronies?  WMDs.

“When no evidence was found, the reason changed to deposing a dictator.  After that reason went away, it was to bring democracy to that country.  His administration even suppressed evidence that research on WMDs had been abandoned in Iraq.”

[RWC] Perhaps Mr. McClarey should read the Iraq War Resolution, passed by Congress BEFORE the Iraq war.  The Iraq War Resolution listed a number of reasons for invading Iraq.

“To top it off, a no-bid contract for war reparations was awarded to Halliburton.

“If you think this is written by a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat, I was a Republican for 30 years — I joined under Nixon in 1973 — until the attack on Iraq.”

[RWC] Could we have another “lifelong Republican” impersonator on our hands?  After all, this letter has most of the standard lefty talking points about Iraq we’ve heard for the last 5+ years, including mentioning the evil Halliburton, not once, but twice.

You’ll note Mr. McClarey doesn’t mention his position on other issues.  Though I have no way to know, this could be because Mr. McClarey knows mentioning his other positions would uncover him as a Republican impersonator, a RINO, or at least someone who was registered in the wrong party.  The “I joined under Nixon in 1973” comment may be a clue.  You may recall Mr. Nixon implemented fairly leftist policies.
