Clinton in a league of her own; Gerald (Duke) McCoy; Beaver County Times; April 3, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“With everything we have heard concerning candidates, let’s get to the true facts.”

[RWC] Mr. McCoy sure has guts writing about “true facts” when discussing Hillary Clinton.

“As first lady, Hillary Clinton visited more then 80 countries and has developed a relationship with many heads of state.  She is well versed on the needs of the people, has called for action to freeze mortgage rates and home foreclosures and tax relief for the middle class.”

[RWC] All first ladies visit a lot of countries and develop relationships “with many heads of state.”  Freezing “mortgage rates and home foreclosures” is a bad idea in that it rewards bad behavior and punishes those people who met their obligations.  Regarding “tax relief for the middle class,” President Bush did that in 2001 and 2003, but as a senator Mrs. Clinton referred to the tax rate cuts for the so-called middle class as “tax cuts for the rich.”

“She has been an outstanding senator for New York for two terms, and this is what this campaign should be about.  Whether she is male or female should not enter into the picture, but it does.”

[RWC] You’ll note Mr. McCoy – as well as all other Clinton supporters – doesn’t provide any details of the marvelous things Mrs. Clinton accomplished during her tenure as a senator.

“There are still small-minded people who can’t put the male thing behind them.

“Being a brother of five sisters and the father of five daughters, I believe women are more than capable of running our country, and Clinton has proven her worth.

“Any man with the background she has would be far ahead in this race.  Let’s stop with the female-male thing and elect the most knowledgeable candidate.”

[RWC] The “Any man with the background …” comment is BS.  Just as with her Senate seat, the only reason Mrs. Clinton is even being considered is because she’s the wife of Bill Clinton.  I’d be willing to bet that if a man were the “wife” of Mr. Clinton we wouldn’t even have heard of Mr. Clinton.

These paragraphs are more of the “you’re a sexist if you don’t support Mrs. Clinton” and “you’re a racist if you don’t support Mr. Obama” BS being hurled by the Democrats.

“U.S. Sen. Barack Obama is a very intelligent man, but at the present time he is not in the same league as Clinton.  I do believe his time will come, but it is in the near future, not against Clinton.”

[RWC] Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton are in exactly “the same league.”  They’re fighting over race and sex because there’s nothing else to distinguish them from each other.

“There are people in the Obama campaign spreading rumors that Clinton can’t win.”

[RWC] That’s exactly what the Clinton campaign is saying about Mr. Obama, including the PA Clinton cheerleader-in-chief, Gov. Ed Rendell.

“I believe she should ride the wave and take it to the end — and may the most qualified person win.”

[RWC] I agree.
