Tax issue a big deal; Gerald “Duke” McCoy; Beaver County Times; October 24, 2012.

Previous editor notes asserted, “The writer is president of Ambridge Council.”  I don’t know if Mr. McCoy still holds this office.

Mr. McCoy wrote at least 16 letters since 2006.  Previous critiques of McCoy letters are here, here, here, and here.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I noticed the front page article concerning state representative Republican candidate Kathy Coders [sic] and her comments on her failure to pay $42,500 in federal taxes on a timely basis as being no big deal.

“At a time when our state has a severe debt crisis, as well as the trillions of dollars owed by the federal government, her only comment to owing $42,500 is no big deal.”

[RWC] “Our state has a severe debt crisis?”  Our budget is balanced and our debt appears to be about average.

“The voters of Pennsylvania should be looking at candidates who can pull us out of this crisis, not one that doesn’t take responsibility for her own debt without federal intervention.

“To owe taxes dating back as far as 2006 and the IRS placing a lien on her property doesn’t sound like a fiscally responsible person.

“In November, all voters must take a close look at their candidates and support those they believe can pull us out of this crisis before we go the route of the Roman Empire and collapse.”

[RWC] You have to appreciate Mr. McCoy’s hypocrisy.  While he opined Mrs. Coder “doesn’t sound like a fiscally responsible person,” Mr. McCoy spent his last letter trying to convince us President Obama wasn’t responsible for the debt incurred during his administration.  I know nothing about the Coders or their tax situation, but eventually they will pay any tax debt out of their own pockets.  In contrast, you and I get to pay for the debt Mr. Obama has racked up.
