Bush has flawed war strategy; Terry McGaffic; Beaver County Times; October 4, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Stay the course.  What a strategy.”

[RWC] As you’ll read, McGaffic proposes no strategy.

“I will not start a troop withdrawal, even if Laura and my dumb dog are the only ones who believe in me.  What a mindset.  Taking advice on how to run a war from a 90-year-old guy.  Brilliant.  Not listening to your generals and the voice of the majority of the public.”

[RWC] President Bush did listen to his generals, just not the generals McGaffic apparently supports.

What “90-year-old guy?”  If McGaffic is referring to former Sec. of State Henry Kissinger, Mr. Kissinger is 83, not 90.  Mr. Kissinger is generally acknowledged as one of our better Secretaries of State and administrations of both parties have picked his brain.

As far as “[t]aking advice on how to run a war,” I doubt that was the topic.  President Bush would have been discussing diplomatic efforts, not seeking “advice on how to run a war.”

“This president reminds me of some failed war leaders from the past.”

[RWC] It’s too bad McGaffic didn’t provide any examples.
