Spinning a lousy economy; Michael G. McGee; Beaver County Times; September 26, 2007.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“During this so-called economic expansion that has benefited the well off, while the middle class continues to be squeezed by stagnant wages, higher health-care costs, higher energy costs, etc., we’ve been told how home ownership is at its highest levels.

“Now we know why - the sub-prime mortgage market.”

[RWC] “Now we know why?”  Where has Mr. McGee been for the last few years?  Low interest rates were common knowledge.

Note that you can’t please Mr. McGee.  He asserts the “so-called economic expansion” has helped only “the well off,” yet also complains that some people who previously couldn’t get a mortgage got one.

“As credit dries up and mortgages are foreclosed, I think the Republicans will need some other topic to try to put their spin on this lousy economy.”

[RWC] I could be going out on a limb, but having read a few of Mr. McGee’s letters, I believe his definition of a “lousy economy” is any economy during a Republican administration.  Low unemployment, a growing stock market, increasing tax revenue, a decreasing deficit, et cetera apparently don’t count in Mr. McGee’s world.
