Frank McKibben – 12/9/10

Celebration’s origin is not in the Bible; Frank McKibben; Beaver County Times; December 9, 2010.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“If you ask most people about the origin of Christmas and its celebration, they can tell you that it comes from sources not found in the Bible.

“These same people will justify its usage because the church ‘Christianized’ the tradition and so it’s OK to observe.

“The problem is that Christmas is not the birth of Jesus at all and so misrepresents Gospel narratives and causes many to live in error.  Jesus stated that we can only be his disciples if we continue in his word and that we would know the truth which would set us free.

“So, can light and darkness then agree?  Can truth and falsehood paint a true picture of events?  Can God ever agree with the devil?   Of course not!  Christmas is ancient sun worship, pure and simple, which proves that it is an evil holiday because it pulls people’s hearts away from the true God - Jesus Christ.”

[RWC] This is at least the second letter from Mr. McKibben on this topic.  A previous McKibben letter I did not critique was entitled “Christmas has Pagan roots” (1/3/06).

Does it really matter the date we use to celebrate “the birth of Jesus?”
