Outsourcing jobs is a disgrace; Tony Mester; Beaver County Times; November 3, 2010.

The only previous Mester letter of which I’m aware was “Executive pay must be reined in.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Heritage Valley Health System will lay off about 25 employees in favor of outsourcing the jobs to India.”

[RWC] I believe Mr. Mester is upset about “offshoring,” not “outsourcing.”  Outsourcing is when a business contracts with another business to perform some functions.  For example, a business may contract with a janitorial business for cleaning services instead of doing the cleaning with its own employees.  In this case, what Heritage Valley is doing is both outsourcing and offshoring.

“With unemployment at almost 10 percent, this is a disgrace.  It is a slap in the face to our country, something that Scrooge would do.

“Our politicians should tax these companies so much that it wouldn’t benefit them (moneywise) to outsource.  But then again, these companies contribute to their campaigns, with more than $3 billion being spent this year.”

[RWC] The only reason for this critique is to illustrate how some people (especially lefties) view taxes as a tool for economic and social engineering.  That is, do what we (government) want you to do or we’ll tax you until you have no choice but to do our bidding.
