Another government diversion; John ‘Yogi’ Meyer; Beaver County Times; January 28, 2007.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I really cannot believe how gullible a very large percent of the American people are.”

[RWC] The pot calling the kettle black?

“First, regarding the hole in the ozone layer, most Americans knew it was caused by all the pollution being released into the atmosphere, plus the propulsion of rockets and shuttles leaving our planet to explore other planets.”

[RWC] Since when?

“Americans were very upset and concerned over the depletion of the ozone layers, so good old Uncle Sam does what he is very good at - creates another diversion and blames the problem on the good citizens of America for using deodorant in spray cans.”

[RWC] Not exactly.  The alleged culprit is chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).  CFCs were used in refrigerants (Freon) and in spray can propellants for all kinds of products, not just deodorant.

“Now, we have the same problem, but this problem is the greenhouse effect, which is being blamed for the melting the polar ice cap, the disappearance of coral reefs and ecosystems being out of sync.

“Now to get all the attention off this problem, they created another diversion - non-smoker vs. smoker, in other words, ‘side-stream smoke.’

“This ploy is to distract you and me away from the real problem: our government’s disregard on stricter restrictions for the burning of fossil fuels.  (To the folks in the Shippingport area, I extend my deepest sympathy in advance.)”

[RWC] If it’s a ploy to divert attention away from alleged man-made global warming, it’s not working.  Regardless of the day’s weather, we’re told it’s the result of man-made global warming.

“In closing, I only have one more thing to say: Is it just me or am I not reading this correct?”

[RWC] It’s just you.
