Paying the price; E. R. Miller; Beaver County Times; December 30, 2005.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“This letter is just to let off some of my frustrations.

“While at the airport in Honolulu, Hawaii, I noticed a young man, in his service uniform.  He was walking with a cane and with each step his left leg from the knee down would kick to the side with a clicking sound.  I presume he had been wounded and was wearing a prosthesis.  He could not have been more than 20 years old.  My heart aches for this young man.

“While on the plane home, another soldier sat across the aisle of the plane from me.  The pilot of the plane announced he was returning home for the holidays and he was given a seat in the first-class section of the plane with a big round of applause, which he truly deserved.  My deepest thoughts are, for what?  So that the geek in Washington, D.C. can say we are winning the war and expects Americans to be gullible enough to believe him.”

[RWC] Ah, name-calling.  The President is a “geek” and if you believe we’re winning in Afghanistan and Iraq you’re “gullible.”  While the author felt it was OK to use the servicemen in his/her letter in an attempt to make a point, it appears he never bothered to ask these men their opinion.

“I have never been so disappointed in a president.  I voted for him because there was no one else to vote for, but, oh my, how we are paying the price.”

[RWC] “No one else to vote for?”  What about Al Gore and John Kerry?

Note how President Bush is at fault, not the enemy.
