Let public decide on drilling in parks; Robyn Miller; Beaver County Times; June 17, 2014.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Joni Mitchell sang, ‘Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone, They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.’

“Our County Commissioners are -- and have been -- destroying over the past several years Brady’s Run Park.

“After moving back to Beaver County four years ago, I discovered a park full of cement and downed trees.  What is a park?  My idea of a beautiful park is one that has trees for shade, green space to put a blanket down, and a place for children to run and play in open spaces ... not one filled with plastic playground equipment, cement and no trees.”

[RWC] I routinely go through Brady’s Run Park and I have no idea what Ms. Miller is referring to.

“Now they are going to allow the extraction of gas and oil.  Really, should that not be left up to the public to vote on?  I know that we could get money for selling the rights, but at what cost?  I beg the county commissioners to reconsider this move.”

[RWC] No one wants Brady’s Run Park ruined.  When I was young, my family and friends had many picnics there and when I was a Boy Scout a number of winter camporees were held there, including my first.  For my Eagle Scout project, I built two ice rescue stations for the park’s lake.  When still Explorers and students at Penn State – Beaver, a friend and I organized and led a clean-up day at the park.  The last I read, the Commissioners had only asked for proposals.  Why not wait to see the proposals before getting all wound up?
