A safe environment is everyone’s concern; Michelle Mindek (MM); Beaver County Times; December 11, 2016.

The previous Mindek letter I critiqued was “We owe a great deal to the Greatest Generation.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Recently in The Times, we’ve been hearing good things about the Shell cracker plant.  Well, now we have a great article about the bad side of the plant.”

[RWC] Most of my comments on this topic are in my review of Robert Schmetzer’s letter “Those concerned with Shell plant are protectors.”

“First, a brave woman who lives in Louisiana came up to tell her story, which is alarming.  Her sister and mother died six months apart and attributed both deaths to problems living near a chemical plant.  She also developed asthma as an adult.”

[RWC] MM failed to mention the subject story noted the “brave woman who lives in Louisiana” “still isn’t exactly sure about her mother’s cause of death” nearly 20 years ago.

“Beaver County is a beautiful county and the town of Beaver is one of the most beautiful towns around.  When this plant open up, that terrible smell will kick around and people will become sick.  What will happen to our homes?  Will we be able to live here?  Who will buy them?  It may become a ghost town.”

[RWC] Hysteria much?

Does MM know Nova Chemicals has “a chemical plant” adjacent to the Shell property and it’s been in operation since 1942?

“If there is a terrible smell or pollution, it will not stay just in Potter Township.  It will travel miles and miles.  We must think of the future.”

[RWC] So, it would be okay “If there is a terrible smell or pollution [as long as it would] stay just in Potter Township?”  Wow!

“It took two brave women to start this discussion.  We the people who care for the environment must be heard.  Keep the air and water clean.  It involves the health of everyone.”

[RWC] “It took two brave women to start this discussion?”  Where has MM been the past several years?
