Don’t fall for GOP’s hypocrisy; Roger Nanni; Beaver County Times; September 11, 2008.

The Times failed to note Mr. Nanni is chairman of the Leetsdale Democrat committee.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Why is it that nobody challenges Republican claims about spending?”

[RWC] I guess Mr. Nanni doesn’t read Times editorials.  At the same time it lobbies for ever more spending, the Times constantly dumps on Republicans for profligacy.

“John McCain keeps saying the same old tax-and-spend stuff Republicans — or, as I like to call them, hypocrites — have been saying for years.”

[RWC] First Mr. Nanni starts off with a faulty premise, now he’s name-calling.  These traits always make for a good letter – not.

“Why doesn’t anyone call them on the spending of the past years when they controlled all three branches of government and increased annual spending at more than twice the rate (7.3 percent) of the Clinton years (3.3 percent)?

“Last year, the first full budget year since the Democrats took control of Congress, spending increased by less than 3 percent, by far the lowest since Bill Clinton left office.

“Historically, spending and debt increases are higher under Republicans than Democrats.

“As for jobs, 23 million new jobs were created under the Clinton tax policy, while less than 5 million were generated with Bush’s pro-growth agenda, which McCain supports.  In fact, more than twice as many jobs (10.5 million) were created during the four years of the Carter administration.

“Since 1948, twice as many jobs have been created under Democratic administrations than Republican ones; average annual increase under Democrats 2.2 million, under Republicans, 1 million.

“There are currently about 1.8 million new workers entering the job market annually.  The only real growth from the last three Republican administrations is the $5 trillion they accumulated in budget deficits, and that figure doesn’t include the more than $1 trillion they took from the Social Security surplus.”

[RWC] The way this letter rattled off “facts” I became suspicious it was a piece of Democrat collateral.  That’s when I did a Google search and learned Mr. Nanni is a member of the Allegheny County Democrat committee.  Since it’s a piece of Democrat marketing collateral and no sources are cited, I didn’t waste my time researching the alleged factoids.
