March for Our Lives rally Saturday in Beaver; Emily O’Leary (EO); Beaver County Times; March 20, 2018.

Below is a review of the subject letter.

“This Saturday, hundreds of thousands of people will gather nationwide for an event called March for Our Lives, including here in Beaver County.  The March for Our Lives rally will take place at the Beaver County Courthouse beginning at noon.

“It is important for people to know that this rally is not a left or right issue, it’s not a blue or red issue, it’s not a liberal or conservative issue, it’s not a donkey or elephant issue, nor is it a Democrat or Republican issue.  This is a common-sense issue.”

[RWC] It’s a nice sentiment, but it’s not true, at least in this case.  According to the “March for Our Lives - Beaver County” Facebook page, “Beaver County Young Democrats, Moral Mondays and the 12th CD Chapter of the Progressive Democrats of America are co-hosting the March for Our Lives Rally in Beaver County,” leftist political groups all.

“This is about ensuring that our children remain safe in their schools and it’s about common-sense gun laws.  This is not a march advocating for the removal of hunting rifles, or pistols for self protection, this is about creating laws to protect us all from military-style weapons whose sole purpose is meant for mass killing.”

[RWC] “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” - Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Please read my review of the Second Amendment.  It addresses most of EO’s issues.  I don’t know if EO understands the purpose of Amendment II.

“We as parents, friends, and community members should come out and support school safety.  We as parents, friends, and community members should come out and support common-sense gun laws.  It’s going to take all of us working together, letting our voices be heard, and standing up for our students, our schools, and our communities to finally let our politicians know that enough is enough.”

[RWC] Though the author told us the rally is “about common-sense gun laws,” why didn’t she provide details?

Finally, our challenge is to figure out how to deal with criminal gun violence without sacrificing “the security of a free State.”
