On way to Third World status; Milena Ostrosser; Beaver County Times; August 30, 2005.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“It is very scary to me that the outlook of this beautiful nation of ours is to lose the respect we once enjoyed worldwide.  We will soon be looked upon as a Third World country.

“But this assumption is proving to be more and more correct.”

[RWC] Based on the content of this letter, I’ll go out on a limb and assume Ms. Ostrosser is a liberal.  It never ceases to amaze me that anyone can look at the U.S. relative to the rest of the world and conclude “We will soon be looked upon as a Third World country.”

Even if you accept the idea that others in the world no longer respect the U.S., why should we care?  Just as individuals, we can only do what we believe to be right.  If others respect us, fine.  If they don’t, that’s their problem, not ours.

“In the last four years, we’ve spent more money, especially in Iraq, for reconstruction than we can afford.  As years pass by, terrorists continue to destroy, causing more and more updating that we can’t afford to do because we are slowly going broke.

“President Bush has never known hunger and has never known any financial difficulty.  His penchant for raiding our national treasury comes from an ignorance of penury.  He is a man so bloated with ego and power, he can’t see the forest for the trees.”

[RWC] So what if “President Bush has never known hunger and has never known any financial difficulty?”  That’s true for most of us, though I know liberals don’t want us to believe it.  Ms. Ostrosser then gets into name-calling.

“I only hope he recognizes reality and has his eyes open to see the harm he’s doing before it’s too late.”

[RWC] This is simply a rambling letter with no apparent point, other than to bash President Bush.  Ms. Ostrosser never tells us what she wants to see done.
