Mary Pellegrino – 2/2/11

Don’t ignore event’s seamy underside; Sister Mary Pellegrino, CSJ, Congregational Moderator, Sisters of St. Joseph; Beaver County Times; February 2, 2011.

In the interest of disclosure, I attended St. Titus grade school in Aliquippa during the 1950s and 1960s.  The Sisters of St. Joseph operated St. Titus.

A previous letter from Sister Pellegrino is here.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“While we cheer wildly for our hometown Steelers, children and teens likely will become victims of human trafficking at Super Bowl XLV.”

[RWC] I’ll go out on a limb and guess there’s no human trafficking at the actual Super Bowl.  Sister Pellegrino is not alone.  Another sister wrote a letter on this topic in Packer country.

“This event, attracting large numbers of travelers and money, will be a center also of sex slaves, women and children brought to Dallas by human traffickers, according to Newsweek magazine.”

[RWC] Twice Sister Pellegrino refers to “women and children” but not men.  Are male “sex slaves” of less concern than “women and children?”

“Human trafficking, often called modern day slavery, is the fastest-growing crime in the world.  The buying and selling of people for profit and pleasure has been said to rival drug trafficking because human persons can be sold, not just once, but over and over again.

“And lest we think that this happens only in other countries, it is estimated that between 15,000 to 18,000 people, the majority young women and children, are bought and sold for sex within our borders every year.

“It is sometimes hard to believe that such a crime happens in our city or town or at the Super Bowl.  This might be the same thought of the victims who find themselves caught in its ugly web.

“Learn more about human trafficking, learn the signs, and talk with others about this crime by visiting humantrafficking.org’s web site.”

[RWC] What is it with lefties trying to advance their pet projects at the expense of the Super Bowl?  Remember the myth that more women are at risk of domestic violence on Super Bowl Sunday than at any other time?  Don’t hold your breath waiting for these lefties to warn about the same activity at the Democrat convention in 2012.

Finally, I don’t recall any letters from Sister Pellegrino criticizing ACORN when employees were caught on video indicating how ACORN could help reporters posing as human traffickers in 2009.  Now that Planned Parenthood has been caught recently in a similar sting, will we see a letter from Sister Pellegrino?
