Why should we pay?; Wayne Petrosky; Beaver County Times; January 2, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Why should the taxpayers pay for lawmakers’ pensions, medical and other benefits when a lot of working class people have lost or are paying part or all of theirs?”

[RWC] I’m not a fan of most politicians, but why does Mr. Petrosky believe they aren’t “working class people?”  We can probably successfully argue that politicians are overcompensated via wages and/or benefits, but I’d be hard-pressed to say they don’t work.

“These lawmakers make enough in salary to pay their own, which would save a lot of tax dollars for the people of the state of Pennsylvania.”

[RWC] I too opposed the payjacking.  My point in critiquing this letter is to highlight Mr. Petrosky’s language.

“Minimum wage people get nothing, yet they help pay for the lawmakers’.”

[RWC] Why shouldn’t everyone, regardless of how much they earn, have to pay for the cost of government?
