Obama will win this marathon; Weston R. Phelps; Beaver County Times; April 27, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Those Democrats who voted for Hillary Clinton must realize that she is still behind Barack Obama, even after her victory in Pennsylvania.

“I believe Obama will be victorious in the next two primary elections (Indiana and North Carolina).  Obama should win Indiana by a slight margin, but he’ll run away with North Carolina.”

[RWC] I wonder why Mr. Phelps didn’t provide the basis for his predictions.

“So by the late night hours of May 6, all that’ll be left for Clinton is the crying because she’ll be all but finished, and Obama will be able to start focusing his efforts on Republican John McCain and the presidential election of 2008, where he will be victorious.

“If anyone reading this, especially if they fall into my age demographic (18-25 years old), is offended I must ask them, why?  For those who fall into this demographic, it’s obvious.  Obama offers us the most: lower college tuition, an end to the pointless war in Iraq, an honest effort to lower gas prices, steps toward helping the environment and so on.”

[RWC] Note Mr. Phelps doesn’t say who will pay for “lower college tuition.”  Unless a benevolent interplanetary traveler drops in to throw around cash, taxpayers will pay for Mr. Obama’s “lower college tuition” pandering.

Mr. Phelps writes about Mr. Obama’s “honest effort to lower gas prices,” yet if you look at Mr. Obama’s energy plan this isn’t mentioned.

Mr. Phelps doesn’t tell us why the war in Iraq is “pointless.”  I’m sure calling their efforts “pointless” is simply Mr. Phelps’ way of supporting the troops.

Regarding “steps toward helping he environment,” who isn’t?

“I’m not really the type for comparisons, but Obama is like John F. Kennedy, and his mere presence in the White House would revitalize and bring a vigor to this country that I have not experienced in my 20-plus years of life.”

[RWC] If Mr. Phelps honestly believes Mr. “Obama is like John F. Kennedy,” either the schools Mr. Phelps attended did a poor job teaching about JFK or Mr. Phelps did a poor job of learning.  You’ll note Mr. Phelps didn’t provide the details of how Mr. “Obama is like John F. Kennedy.”

What is it with some Obamists that they feel a need to claim Mr. Obama is like JFK and Abraham Lincoln?

“With all that said, the bottom line for Clinton supporters is that their candidate won the race in Pennsylvania, but Obama is going to win the marathon and be the candidate representing the Democratic Party in November.”
