Why bring gun to restaurant?; Mary Pizutti; Beaver County Times; May 29, 2014.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“We were eating at a local restaurant in Beaver County and were seated waiting for our meal.  A gentleman -- and I use that term loosely -- came in and greeted an older woman who must have been his mother.

“He had an exposed revolver on his hip.  He had on a regular T-shirt with no official ID stating his affiliation with any law enforcement entity.

“He must be listening to too much radio with shows detailing the ‘gunshow’ at a Chipotle restaurant.  What right does this redneck have scaring diners with the exposed gun, not to mention families with children in tow trying to enjoy a Friday evening as a family?

“I am so angry.  What a moron.  Looks bad for us as a country.”

[RWC] Would I open-carry a weapon – firearm or otherwise – in these circumstances?  Probably not, but that’s me and the letter doesn’t indicate the gentleman did anything to justify Ms. Pizutti’s name-calling.  Based only on this letter, if anyone “Looks bad for us as a country,” it’s the author.

Predictably, a local lefty leader managed to introduce race/ethnicity with the following comment on the BCT website.

“The point is that no one has any idea who this guy is, or guys, when there’s more than one.

“Imagine if a group of armed Blacks or Middle Easterners came in (legally armed, and with no intention of than self-defense, but you wouldn’t know that), would everyone here feel the same way about it?  I doubt it.  Actually, given the record of mass killings, followed by suicide, white males are way more likely to be the shooters.)”

[RWC] Note how KD compares apples to oranges to drag race/ethnicity into the discussion.  A single, armed man greeting his mother is not the same as “a group of armed Blacks or Middle Easterners” or Whites or so on coming in.  I’ll go out on a limb and guess most people would be concerned if an armed, unidentified group of anyone – regardless of ethnicity or skin color – descended on a restaurant.  It never ceases to amaze me how lefty activists can literally look at any topic and somehow drag in skin color, sexual preference, et cetera.  KD even managed to drag skin color into the Santa Barbara killings.  Please read my paper “Lefty race baiters.”

“I’d suggest getting up and heading out the door, telling the manager on the way that when the business can operate in a less stressful way, I’ll consider returning.

“I have no problem with people carrying weapons if they have a clear reason, such as they are transferring a large sum of cash or on their way to and from work as a security guard.  But otherwise, leave your guns at home.  What you have a right to do and what’s wise to do isn’t always the same.”
