Mechelle Poling – 10/17/08

Disparities that can’t be overlooked; Mechelle Poling; Beaver County Times; October 17, 2008.

In an April 2007 letter entitled “Congress must end the war,” Ms. Poling asserted, “Congress needs to declare war on the Bush administration.”  As I wrote in my critique of that letter, “I love it when people like Ms. Poling make their positions clear.  President Bush is the enemy, not the Islamofascists trying to kill us.”

In a rambling, run-on comment (Sunday August 26, 2007 at 09:05 AM EST) in response to one I made on the Times website regarding “Paging Al Gore,” Ms. Poling wrote, “Bush and his administration are nothing but a bunch of war mongrel lying thieves.”  I believe this comment tells us far more about Ms. Poling than it does anyone else.

Back in April, Ms. Poling was concerned “the chance of an Obama-Clinton dream ticket will never happen.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“If you were born in Hawaii and raised by grandparents, you’re too different.  Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers and you’re the perfect American story.”

[RWC] I have to admit I never heard “if you were born in Hawaii and raised by grandparents, you’re too different.”  After all, John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone.

“If your name is Barack, you are an unpatriotic, radical Muslim.  Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track and you’re a maverick.”

[RWC] Seriously, someone who spells her name “Mechelle” instead of “Michelle” is throwing rocks regarding names?

“Graduate from Harvard Law School and you’re unstable.  Attend five different small colleges before graduating and you’re well rounded.”

[RWC] Who claimed Mr. Obama is unstable?  Regarding Harvard, it’s interesting Ms. Poling considers graduation from there to be a good thing.  Despite also graduating from Harvard, folks like Ms. Poling still considered President Bush to be a dunce.

By the way, Mr. Obama also attended multiple colleges.  Prior to Harvard, Mr. Obama attended Occidental College (Los Angeles) and Columbia.

Notice Ms. Poling’s elitism on Mr. Obama’s behalf.  Apparently there’s something wrong with “small colleges.”

“Spend three years as a community organizer, become the first black president of the Harvard Law Review, spend 12 years as a constitutional law professor, eight years as a state senator representing 750,000 and four years as a U.S. senator representing 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and you don’t have any real leadership experience.”

[RWC] In none of these cases did the buck stop with Mr. Obama.  As far as “four years as a U.S. senator representing 13 million people,” be serious.  Mr. Obama began campaigning for President almost from the day he took office.

“If your total resume is local weather girl, four years on city council, six years as a mayor representing less than 7,000 people and 20 months as Alaska’s governor representing 650,000 people, then you are qualified to become the country’s second highest-ranking executive.”

[RWC] It’s interesting Ms. Poling chose to compare her candidate for President with the Republican candidate for VP.  Though I believe Gov. Palin stacks up pretty well to Mr. Obama, apparently Ms. Poling believes a McCain to Obama comparison would not be to Mr. Obama’s advantage.
