Obama wouldn’t aid most helpless; Michael Puz; Beaver County Times; July 18, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“One of the basic foundations of government is to safeguard those who cannot protect themselves.

“This necessitates that elected officials serve and defend the rights of all people with a special emphasis on protecting the most helpless in society.

“To make prudent judgments during election time requires a review of the stated positions of candidates against their responsibilities to government in regard to these principles.

“Concerning protecting the rights of the most vulnerable, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama opposes efforts to protect unborn human life and is on record as opposing the Supreme Court’s Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act.”

[RWC] There is no such thing as “the Supreme Court’s Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act.”  The Supreme Court cannot pass acts.  I assume Mr. Puz is referring to Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush in 2003.  When the law was challenged (Gonzales v. Carhart), the Supreme Court ruled (5-4) it was constitutional.

“Obama also voted against a bill to protect the lives of babies who survive an abortion and are born alive.  In these cases, Obama’s positions are contrary to safeguarding all of society.”
