Too big for their britches; William C. Ralston; Beaver County Times; September 21, 2007.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“Wednesday’s article ‘Student Tasered at forum’ ran on page C5.  That was a mistake.  It should have run as the lead on page one.

“I’ve seen the video.  As the student Andrew Meyer asked U.S. Sen. John Kerry a direct question about whether President Bush should have impeachment pushed at him over his Iraq lies, pointing out President Clinton’s near impeachment over his oral sex lie, campus police took him down like this was 1950s Russia.  All the cops needed was a hammer and sickle emblem on their arms - or a swastika.”

[RWC] Mr. Ralston may have seen the video, but he left out quite a bit in his description.

“I find it disturbing this man’s constitutional rights to free speech were tramped on so publicly.  I find Kerry disgusts me for not stopping this, and I feel Bush is to blame for the atmosphere of fear and constitutional bending that allowed it to occur.”

[RWC] You have to love this.  A liberal student gets tasered asking a question of a liberal politician at a liberal gathering held on a probably liberal university campus, and President Bush is to blame!

“The problem isn’t a Republican-Democrat one.  It more of a total shift away from the constitutional rights and responsibilities handed down to us.

“Meyer has the right to ask his questions.  He also has the responsibility to call public leaders to task over what he felt was an injustice.

“Neither liberal nor conservative, Republican or Democrat should ignore this warning sign that some career politicians have gotten too big for their britches.

“We cleaned house in Beaver County.  Perhaps the whole country could benefit from the same.”

[RWC] “We cleaned house in Beaver County?”
