Bush’s bullish behavior; Art Refice; Beaver County Times; September 28, 2007.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“You think a bull running loose in a china shop is damaging?

“What about our stubborn raging bull running loose in the White House?  He has our federal deficit in orbit, the housing industry in shambles and the economy plunging.”

[RWC] From where does Mr. Refice get his news?  The deficit has been shrinking for quite a while and the economy has been growing faster than most of the developed world for the past several years.  Regarding the “housing industry,” even if the comment were true, what does President Bush have to do with it?

“He is playing dominos with our troops while more are being killed and wounded each day for his unnecessary war.”

[RWC] This is our war, not just President Bush’s.

“I thought that with Democrats having the majority of votes in Congress that the damage would at least be minimized, the war shortened and troops starting to come home.

“But no, he is still running free.”

[RWC] So exactly why isn’t Mr. Refice bashing his Democrat representatives for not following through on what Mr. Refice believes they promised?

“It seems as though they have given up hope of ever taming this stubborn bull, locking him in and throwing the keys away to let him run as he pleases.”

[RWC] While many Democrat partisans want a Republican president to surrender, I’m not so sure they’d be so eager for surrender on their own watch.  When Democrats running for president were asked during a recent debate if they’d remove troops from Iraq immediately upon taking office, or even by the end of their first term, candidates Mrs. Bill Clinton, John Edwards, and Barack Obama all said they could not make such a commitment.  Today, however, these are the same people claiming President Bush needs to immediately remove all troops from Iraq.  This is just another example of some people playing politics with national security.

“The hard-headed bull has beaten us for more.  But don’t despair.  Victory will be ours.  He will run rampant for about 14 more months before being shackled and shipped back to Texas.”

[RWC] Serving your full second term as president is “being shackled?”

“It’s a shame that thousands were crippled and killed and that billions were spent to finance an uncalled-for war, especially when there are millions in the United States without health coverage.”

[RWC] If you don’t have “health coverage,” do as I did and buy it.  What has healthcare coverage for civilians got to do with soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq being injured?

“It will take years, if not forever to repair the turmoil this stubborn bull’s war has caused for the lives here and abroad.”

[RWC] Blah, blah, blah.
