Art Refice – 12/3/08

Is he Gen. George Armstrong Bush?; Art Refice; Beaver County Times; December 3, 2008.

In case you’re keeping count, this is at least the eighth Bush-bashing letter Mr. Refice treated us to since 2004.  All were of similar quality.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Do you think the big mistake that Gen. Custer made in his final stand at the Little Big Horn and the bank robberies committed by Jesse James made history?

“I believe that in the history of the United States, not too many events will surpass the blunder of Bush’s unnecessary battle in Iraq and the heist of $700 billion to bail out our failing economy.”

[RWC] I guess Mr. Refice was born after the Carter administration. <g>

I guess Mr. Refice missed the involvement and strong support of the bailout by his party’s leadership.  Indeed, Mr. Refice’s party supports even more bailouts.

“According to the latest labor statistics, more than 10 million jobs were lost this year, and thousands more of the unemployed are being added daily to this amount.”

[RWC] I’ll give Mr. Refice the benefit of the doubt and assume he simply read the Bureau of Labor Statistics report wrong.  The report said, “the number of unemployed persons increased to 10.1 million,” not “more than 10 million jobs were lost this year.”  The number of jobs lost this year through October is about 2.4 million.

“These facts and the toll they have taken on our country and its people should fill many pages in our history books for the Bush era.

“It will take more than one president to undo this history.”

[RWC] These last two paragraphs are intended to provide cover should the situation not improve while a Democrat is President and Democrats are in the majority in Congress.  As a reminder, Democrats have been the majority in Congress for the last two years.
