‘Save education funding for all kids’; Milton L. Richeal; Beaver County Times; March 17, 2011.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“When are the citizens of this commonwealth going to start using the common sense the good Lord gave them?

“This governor was voted into office by promising a lower budget without raising taxes.  His answer?  Cut funding to state universities for the education of our future.  In the long run, his intent must be to let the majority of kids who can’t afford higher education grow up to be stupid.”

[RWC] For most of my comments, please read my critique of “Corbett’s priorities make no sense” (Don Skinner, 3/13/11).

“Here’s an idea: Cut government spending for the luxuries members of the Legislature enjoy.  When they fill their gas tanks, they do it at our expense, while we pay for that same gas.

“There are too many of these lawmakers, and they carry expense accounts while we, the people, must fend for ourselves.  Make them pay, too.”

[RWC] Members of the General Assembly get reimbursed only for expenses related to official business.

“This governor forgets who voted him in.  Maybe those who did will now think twice when their son or daughter is denied an opportunity at further education.  Universities like Penn State and Pitt will also be grossly affected by this move.”

[RWC] I’ll bet Gov. Corbett remembers exactly “who voted him in,” and – going out on a limb – I suspect Mr. Richeal isn’t in that group.

“Listen, governor, do not make kids suffer for adults’ mistakes.  Save education funding for all kids.  Get it right before it’s too late.
