Vote straight Republican; Bill Russell; Beaver County Times; October 13, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Before the liberal newspapers begin endorsing candidates for the November election, consider the following:

“Are you sick of the mess in Harrisburg, mad about the legislative pay grab and casino gambling?  Vote straight Republican.”

[RWC] Mr. Russell appears to have a memory problem.  Republican – along with Democrat – leaders in the General Assembly were among the payjacking leaders and the Republican-majority GA approved the payjacking.  That’s why at least a couple of the Republican leaders got booted during the primary.  The Republican-majority GA also approved casino gambling.

“Are you pro-life, support the constitutional right to own firearms, want lower taxes and tough laws against illegal immigration?  Vote straight Republican.”

[RWC] Mr. Russell probably missed the fact the Republican-majority GA increased the PA income tax a couple of years ago.

“Do you support our troops, support strong laws against terrorist [sic], favor a strong national defense and are against a cut-and-run policy in Iraq?  Vote straight Republican.

“Do you support conservative judges?  Do you not want to wake up and find Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha, Charlie Rangel and John Conyers running Congress?  Vote straight Republican.”

[RWC] Man, is Mr. Russell going to get creamed for this letter.
