Halliburton, Cheney and more; Robert Schmetzer; Beaver County Times; March 19, 2007.

The last time I critiqued a Schmetzer letter, he asserted Republicans were “driving Americans into the ground.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“How much money per day does Halliburton Corp. make off of the taxpayers while this war in Iraq lingers?  Does Dick Cheney still get deferred compensation from Halliburton while he is vice president?  Have there been any public laws broken that have not been investigated and prosecuted?  When you pick and choose what laws to prosecute, you are choosing anarchy over democracy.”

[RWC] Halliburton makes so “much money per day … off of the taxpayers” it’s in the process of selling the division (KBR, Inc.) with the contracts.  Halliburton wants to focus on its core oil services business.

Regarding VP Cheney getting deferred income from Halliburton, I’ve covered that before.  For a thorough discussion of the topic, please go to FactCheck.org.  In summary, everything about VP Cheney’s former ties to Halliburton have been above board.  In some cases, Mr. Cheney even went the extra mile.  I suspect Mr. Schmetzer knows this since it’s very old news.

Mr. Schmetzer needs to update his list of talking points.
