Impeach the president; David Shields, Jr.; Beaver County Times; April 2, 2006

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“It is time to question our president.”

[RWC] That’s right.  No one has questioned President Bush since he took office in 2001.  Is Mr. Shields a modern day Rip Van Winkle?

“Impeachment is the way since he cannot answer the public when the questions are asked.  If we could impeach President Clinton over a blue dress, then I would think that lying to go to war is a high crime and should be dealt with.”

[RWC] When has President Bush not answered a question?  What new evidence does Mr. Shields have that indicates President Bush lied?  To date, every review conducted has concluded neither President Bush nor Congress misrepresented the pre-war intelligence available to them.

Bill Clinton was not impeached “over a blue dress.”  Bill Clinton was impeached for obstruction of justice and committing perjury during deposition for a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him.  That’s also why his Arkansas law license was suspended for five years.  The blue dress simply provided irrefutable evidence Bill Clinton had committed perjury.

“This is not an issue of Republican or Democrat.  This is an American issue.”

[RWC] Right.  Anyone care to bet to which way Mr. Shields votes?
