Bush’s ‘consistent ineptness’; Donald A. Smith; Beaver County Times; September 29, 2004.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“If the Bush administration had put as much effort and planning into fighting terrorism as it is now putting into attacking John Kerry, we wouldn’t be in such a quagmire in Iraq with worsening attacks by insurgents, 1,000 U.S. soldiers dead, torture at Abu Ghraib, our international reputation tarnished, some $200 billion wasted, and Al Qaeda (the real enemy) emboldened and still on the loose.

[RWC] Is Mr. Smith telling us President Bush should not campaign or respond to attacks by John Kerry et al?

“Quagmire?”  You have to admire the effort these folks go to in order to convince us Iraq is Vietnam.  They even make use of Abu Ghraib to convey the idea that the miscreants who abused prisoners represent American servicemen and servicewomen.  That’s exactly the same tactic John Kerry used to attack fellow servicemen after he came back from Vietnam.  I find this tactic especially despicable because it attempts to defame men and women who make sacrifices to stand in harm’s way to protect our liberty.

This whole paragraph is nothing but a recitation of Democrat talking points.

“The administration accuses Kerry of being inconsistent, but his nuanced thoughtfulness is far better than President Bush’s consistent ineptness and obduracy, as evidenced by his rush to an unjustified war and the subsequent mismanagement of that war.”

[RWC] “Nuanced thoughtfulness?”  Is Mr. Smith kidding?  An inability to take and hold a position on an issue is now “nuanced thoughtfulness?”  What BS!

Regarding “President Bush’s consistent ineptness and obduracy,” perhaps Mr. Smith should contact Messrs. Avedon, Piroli, and Rodich so they can get their story straight.  Mr. Smith and many Democrats accuse President Bush of being stubborn, but the “gang of three” claims Mr. Bush is a flip-flopper.  Come on, guys, get on the same page!
