Iraq could become WWIII; Linda L. Sproul; Beaver County Times; January 17, 2007.

For some background about Ms. Sproul’s thinking, read her letter from March 22, 2006, entitled “A different kind of hero.”

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“Personally, I think that President George W. Bush’s vendetta is concerning the threat made by Saddam Hussein to kill his father.

“We are involved in a lot more serious situation now.

“And after all, Saddam Hussein has been executed.  Since this is what the younger Bush wanted, let’s move on before we get involved in an all-out nuclear war, which will destroy all human beings on the face of the Earth as novelist George Orwell suggests in ‘1984.’”

[RWC] Does any serious thinking person believe a president of the U.S. would take us to war for a “vendetta?”  This is an old canard intended to smear President Bush.  If this had been the case, would Congress have approved the Iraq War Resolution?

“This could turn into World War III with Russia joining forces with Iran, Turkey, Japan, China, Syria, Lebanon and maybe even France, Italy and Great Britain.”

[RWC] Is Ms. Sproul serious?

“In his speech last week, Bush proposed to send around 20,000 more troops to Baghdad when there are already 135,000 troops in Iraq.  And approximately four years ago, when this war began, there were a lot of Americans who sided with him because of the terrorism at hand.

“I think that he’s trying to protect America, but with approximately 3,018 casualties, not counting Great Britain’s casualties, President Bush is really sticking his neck out.  I’m sure that he will hear from the Democrats now that they control Congress and the purse strings.”

[RWC] “I think that he’s trying to protect America?”  Didn’t Ms. Sproul indicate above Iraq was all about a “vendetta?”  This statement is simply an attempt to make us believe she’s open-minded.

“I’m sure that he will hear from the Democrats now that they control Congress and the purse strings?”  Where has Ms. Sproul been?  President Bush and we have been hearing from Democrats on this subject since long before we invaded Iraq.

“We as Americans have had other presidents who have felt that they must have a victory.”

[RWC] What’s this supposed to mean?
