Sisters of St. Joseph serve body and soul; Robert Steffes; Beaver County Times; September 17, 2010.  An editor’s note asserts, “The writer is president of the Beaver Valley Area Beekeepers Association.”

For a little more background, a Post-Gazette letter indicates Mr. Steffes believes the only scientists who don’t believe humans are causing global warming are those who work for the energy industry.  In another letter, Mr. Steffes tried to get us to sign a petition so Bob Edwards could keep his job at NPR.  According to Mr. Steffes, “Mr. Edwards’ calm baritone stands alone in the sea of slime that has become commercial talk radio.”  I could be completely off base, but I suspect Mr. Steffes really meant “conservative talk radio.”  In one letter from Mr. Steffes, he sang the praises of a woman on a crusade against electronic voting machines and offered to send her a check.  I wonder if he ever followed through?

Other Steffes letters I critiqued were entitled “Be wary of totalitarianism,” “Congressional frauds,” “History lesson,” “The time to develop clean energy is now,” “State budget is too generous on drilling,” “Health care effort gets powerful voice,” and “Weak case shows Corbett’s agenda.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I much enjoyed Sunday’s article (‘Growing, Sharing: Community garden thrives in the rich soil of St. Joseph’).

“I would like to add that gardening is not the only local agriculture that the Sisters of St. Joseph in Baden support.  Sister Lyn, the director of grounds and eco-projects, is also an avid beekeeper.  St. Joseph’s has graciously hosted a number of Beaver Valley Area Beekeepers Association events at its facility to promote propagation of our most important garden pollinators.

“What a wonderful and vibrant asset the sisters are to our community, serving both body and soul.”

[RWC] Mr. Steffes failed to note he and the Sisters of St. Joseph are political allies, as we learned in “Health care effort gets powerful voice.”
