Obama is moving quickly on issues; Robert Strickland; Beaver County Times; January 22, 2009.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Our 44th president, Barack Obama, a man of color, is a man of action (Wow, this was the greatest day of my life.)”

[RWC] Perhaps I have my parents and grandparents to blame for this, but I don’t care that Mr. Obama is “a man of color.”  I learned from their example superficial traits like skin color have nothing to do with a person’s character.

“Obama took his seat in the Oval Office Tuesday.  I am 48 years old and never thought that I would ever see this event happen in my lifetime.”

[RWC] The last I checked, we’ve been inaugurating presidents – some newly elected, some re-elected, some taking over for assassinated presidents – at least every four years since 1789.

“But where there’s a will there’s a way.

“One day after taking the Oval Office, the man was working on plans to clean up the nation’s economy and to help the people who need it the most.”

[RWC] Did Mr. Strickland just wake up?  Messrs. Obama and Bush have been working together on this since the election.

“And that’s a good thing because the nation’s economy is bad because of the war overseas and also the war on America’s streets.”

[RWC] I have two points about this sentence.  First, it’s BS the economy has anything to do with our wars.  Look to Washington and the geniuses who thought it was a good idea to give mortgages to people who couldn’t afford them.

Second, what “war on America’s streets?”  Mr. Strickland lives in Aliquippa, so perhaps he believes everywhere is like portions of Aliquippa.  Fortunately, it was not like that when I lived there.

“With so many people out of jobs, putting Americans back into the work force is one of the most important things that the American people are worried about today.

“President Obama has put the issues into action very quickly.”

[RWC] Note Mr. Strickland didn’t provide any details and tell us exactly what Mr. Obama did.  Perhaps that’s because Mr. Strickland knows history shows the remedies proposed by Mr. Obama don’t work, delay recovery, and may actually make things worse.  For reference, research the Great Depression.
