Dirty politics; Charles ‘Chuck’ Summers; Beaver County Times; March 19, 2007.

An editor’s note asserts, “The writer is a candidate for Beaver County Commissioner in the Republican primary election.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Do you know how many people in Beaver County do not vote and tell me they will never vote again because of dirty politics in Beaver County?

“Two of the reasons being, self-seeking treasurer Connie Javens and recorder of deeds Janice Beall.  Are there [sic] actions and motives ethical?”

[RWC] What does “self-seeking” mean?  Are these two persons looking for themselves?  I assume Mr. Summers meant self-serving, but what’s wrong with that?  If you don’t do what’s in your best interest, who will?

“Why are they so opposed to any candidate who wants to run against them for office?

“I hope the judge has enough common sense to keep Shelly Blythe on the ballot.

“To me, the actions and motives of Connie Javens and Janice Beall are depressing, disappointing and insulting, to everyone in Beaver County.

“I think they should apologize to everyone in Beaver County.”

[RWC] I think we need a moratorium on demanding apologies.

“God bless Beaver County.”

[RWC] Far be it from me to defend Democrats, but what’s dirty politics about challenging election petitions?  If the people seeking signatures aren’t following the rules, should they still be allowed on the ballot?  If the challenges are frivolous, that will come out.

If I were Mr. Summers, I’d concentrate on telling voters why they should vote for me instead of accusing others of “dirty politics.”
