John Taormina – 6/20/05

Take care of U.S. first; John Taormina; Beaver County Times; June 20, 2005.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Mr. Bush, it’s time to ask what our country can do for us, not for Iraq and Africa.”

[RWC] Mr. Taormina obviously isn’t a JFK Democrat.

“It’s time we put money into our police departments and fire departments, our schools, our hospitals and our work places so our children can have jobs and our seniors will not lose their homes from higher taxes and our military will remain strong.  Quit worrying about Social Security.”

[RWC] Other than the military and Socialist Security, none of the items on Mr. Taormina’s laundry list are federal government responsibilities.  “Our hospitals and our work places” are not the responsibility of any level of government.  Even Socialist Security should be gradually phased out.

“Let’s take care of our country first.  After all, it’s our money.”

[RWC] I agree it’s our money.  The difference is I believe “our money” should remain in the pocket of the person who earned it.  Based on this letter, I suspect Mr. Taormina believes government should redistribute “our money.”
