Term limits are the best solution; Paul E. Thompson, Jr.; Beaver County Times; February 19, 2009.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“Isn’t it amazing that the fools running Washington and basically ruining our country are the same fools telling us now they can fix it.

“I have my own solution.  It is called term limits.  You get one term and you are out, period.  No more career politicians.

“I also think this could stop a lot of corruption in Washington.  I don’t think a lobbyist is going to spend thousands of dollars on a senator or congressman if he is not going to be around that long.”

[RWC] I used to believe as Mr. Thompson, but I came to believe imposing term limits was like throwing out the baby with the bath water.  Sure, term limits would limit the amount of time a corrupt politician could serve, but they would do the same for honest representatives.  We already have the means to get rid of bad politicians.  It’s called voting for the good guys/gals.  When we continue to elect bad representatives, we have only ourselves to blame.

“We, the people, deserve better and we better start demanding it.  We can only mortgage our country’s future for so long.”
