John M. Tomaszewski – 7/31/06

Avoid a one-issue campaign; John M. Tomaszewski; Beaver County Times; July 31, 2006.

Since September 2004, this is at least the 13th letter from Mr. Tomaszewski spouting liberal talking points, with most bashing Republicans and/or President Bush.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“This coming fall election, the voters have many issues - the Iraq War, Social Security insurance, immigration, health insurance, tax cuts for the high income brackets and corruption in government and corruption in corporations.”

[RWC] I wonder why Mr. Tomaszewski omitted corruption in labor unions?

Regarding the Iraq War, Mr. Tomaszewski has written at least six mostly fact-challenged letters since 2004.

Regarding Socialist Security, Mr. Tomaszewski wrote two letters in 2005 opposing reform.

Regarding illegal immigration, both Ms. Hart and Mr. Santorum have staked out strong positions in favor of border enforcement and opposing amnesty for illegal aliens.  What position does Mr. Tomaszewski support?

I haven’t seen any letters from Mr. Tomaszewski regarding “health insurance,” but I can guess his position.

Regarding “tax cuts for the high income brackets,” that’s another baseless liberal talking point.

Regarding “corruption in government,” he probably means Republicans in government. <g>

Regarding “corruption in corporations,” I wonder why he didn’t write “corruption in business.”  In any case, I guess Mr. Tomaszewski has missed all the trials and convictions for crimes committed (Adelphia, Enron) during the Clinton administration.

“In the past elections, Republican Melissa Hart and Republican Rick Santorum used abortion as a one-issue campaign.”

[RWC] That would have been tough for Ms. Hart because her opposition (Stevan Drobac, Jr.) in the 2002 and 2004 elections was also anti-abortion.  In a Democrat-majority district like Ms. Hart’s, running on a single issue against a Democrat with the same position would have been a formula for failure.  Perhaps Mr. Tomaszewski needs to do better research.

Regarding Mr. Santorum, I was still living in Texas during his previous campaigns so I don’t know how he campaigned.

“In view of the above grave issues, will the one-issue campaign, abortion, win again for Hart and Santorum?”
