Rich are getting richer; John M. Tomaszewski; Beaver County Times; September 10, 2007.

Since September 2004, this is at least the 21st letter from Mr. Tomaszewski spouting liberal talking points, with most bashing Republicans and/or President Bush.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Statistics some years ago had a college graduate earning at 30 percent greater than a high school graduate.

“Recent statistics now have a college graduate earning some 70 percent greater than a high school graduate.

“With the high cost of a college education, about $20,000 to $40,000 per year, only the wealthy (except in a few cases) can send their children to college.

“This is another example where the rich are becoming richer and poor becoming poorer.”

[RWC] Yet another less than enlightening letter from Mr. Tomaszewski.

Not all colleges cost as much as Mr. Tomaszewski asserts.  Of course, part of the reason tuition is so high is the result of liberal policies like widespread taxpayer-funded grants, scholarships, et cetera.  As a result, there’s little market pressure to control tuition.  I guess Mr. Tomaszewski never heard of community colleges, trade schools, et cetera.

Finally, note that nowhere did Mr. Tomaszewski provide a shred of evidence that the poor are becoming poorer.  If Mr. Tomaszewski had been more thorough in his research, he would have found everyone is doing better, with some doing better at a faster rate than others.
