Wars should be the main issue; John M. Tomaszewski; Beaver County Times; July 1, 2008.

Since September 2004, this is at least the 41st letter from Mr. Tomaszewski with all but a handful spouting liberal talking points, with most bashing Republicans and/or President Bush.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“The Iraq and Afghanistan wars have been going on for years, yet we Americans have not been asked to make any sacrifices.

“Life goes on for most Americans as if we are not at war.  Taxes have been cut for the first time in time of war; future generations will be paying for these wars.  There is no draft and there are no food and gasoline shortages.

“We see bumper stickers and flag waving.  These are not examples of love and loyal or zealous support of one’s country but empty patriotism.

“The burden of these wars falls on our armed forces.  Soldiers and Marines are being sent to war again and again, yet the two wars are not the main issues in this presidential campaign.  They should be the main issue in this presidential campaign.”

[RWC] The wars don’t get the coverage they should because the current situation – ongoing success – doesn’t fit the narrative of the left.  After all, after claiming the surge wouldn’t work and later wasn’t working, lefty politicians don’t want to be in the position of being proved wrong.  Should the situation somehow get reversed, Mr. Tomaszewski can rest assured the wars will once again be the leading story.
