Wars are no way to fight terrorism; John M. Tomaszewski; Beaver County Times; November 6, 2009.

Since September 2004, this is at least the 48th letter from Mr. Tomaszewski with all but a handful spouting leftist talking points, with most bashing Republicans and/or former President Bush.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“It seems like we didn’t learn anything from the Vietnam War, a war that shouldn’t have been.

“It has now been admitted that the war in Iraq shouldn’t have been.  Now, the Afghanistan War is it another Vietnam War.”

[RWC] Who “has now … admitted that the war in Iraq shouldn’t have been?”  Mr. Tomaszewski?

“We entered Afghanistan to destroy the terrorists who attacked us on Sept. 11, 2001.

“Our government should bring our troops home from both Iraq and Afghanistan without further delay.  We should improve our interior and border vigilance and improve our international intelligence in the fight against the terrorists, not engage in wars.”

[RWC] What does Mr. Tomaszewski believe will happen if we leave Afghanistan as happened with the Afghan defeat of the Soviets?  Something different this time?  It appears Mr. Tomaszewski is advocating a strategy (the equivalent of moat-surrounded castles) that became obsolete hundreds of years ago with the invention of cannons.  I’m not the expert Mr. Tomaszewski is, but leaving Afghanistan to the Taliban and al-Qaida seems to be an invitation for a repeat of 9/11 and worse.
