Carol Tritinger – 1/20/05

What a waste of money; Carol Tritinger; Beaver County Times; January 20, 2005.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I think it’s a sin to spend tens of thousands of dollars on presidential balls and parties for any president, not just Bush.”

[RWC] Does anyone want to bet Ms. Tritinger didn’t write a similar letter regarding the Clinton inauguration celebrations?  For the record, more money was spent on the 1997 Clinton inauguration celebrations than President Bush’s.1  To be fair, liberal sources claim the money spent in 1997 was less than that cited in the Washington Times article.

Does anyone want to bet we wouldn’t have seen this letter if Kerry had won and spent more?

Ms. Tritinger also forgets we’re celebrating the success of our Constitution.  If peaceful change of leadership for over 200 years isn’t something worthy of celebration, what is?

“He is saying the Social Security fund is going broke.  And what about all of the flood damage, health care and hunger in this world?”

[RWC] Natural disasters, healthcare, and hunger are always with us.  Would Ms. Tritinger have us eliminate all celebrations from now on, or just those involving a Republican president?

“Why can’t people use common sense and just say we don’t need this and neither does the president.”

[RWC] We don’t need Christmas and New Year celebrations either.  What about all the money spent by fans on Steeler paraphernalia and game-watching parties?  What about the money spent on tickets – and parking, food, drink, hotel rooms, airplane tickets, et cetera – for Steeler playoff games?  Why didn’t Ms. Tritinger include those?  I think we know the answer.  Does anyone want to bet we won’t see a letter from Ms. Tritinger claiming the Academy Awards ceremonies should be canceled?

“Put all that money to good use instead of all that waste.”

[RWC] Don’t you love it when one group of people tells another group what constitutes a “waste” of the money they earned?

Is it “a sin” or “waste” to employ people?  Liberals tend to ignore the fact that the money goes to businesses to pay for goods and services.  These businesses pay their employees with this money who in turn purchase goods and services.  Since when is providing employment a waste?  On a side note, these purchases also generate local, state, and federal tax revenue.
