Time to work together; Kayla Turney; Beaver County Times; January 4, 2013.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“As a current Penn State environmental engineering major and a Pittsburgh native, I think it’s important that we, as a community, come together and start taking serious steps to becoming more environmentally responsible.

“It’s a hard reality to face, but the fact of the matter is the Earth can only sustain so much abuse.  We need to reduce our carbon footprint, (the total amount of greenhouse gases produced during any activity).  There are simple ways to start doing this.

“If we all work together we can drastically improve our society’s conditions.  Education is a powerful tool.  If the community understood what we’re doing wrong and how we could fix it, I’m sure people would be eager to help.

“Some examples of steps that can reduce pollution are carpooling/using public transit, using water filters instead of buying bottled water, properly insulating homes, recycling and unplugging appliances when not in use.  If everyone did some of these things the environmental impact could be huge in a positive way.

“I think the Pittsburgh area needs to come together to keep our city beautiful and livable.  We need to reverse the damage to the Earth that previous generations have already caused.”

[RWC] Ms. Turney wrote, “Education is a powerful tool.”  Indeed, it is and it can be abused.  As I noted in my paper “Manmade global warming,” a local school-district “newsletter contained a story about how at least one local public high school science teacher ‘recently completed a rigorous training program led by former Vice President Al Gore to spread the message about the threat of and solutions to global warming.’  That a science teacher and his school district would seek scientific training from a career politician was a cause of concern.”  Who knows what Ms. Turney learned in her high-school and college classes?

By the way, Mr. Gore was co-founder and chairman of Current TV, a cable/satellite network.  On January 2, 2013, Al Jazeera announced its purchase of Current TV.  According to Forbes, “Al Jazeera is paying about $500 million for Current TV.  That means former U.S. Vice President Al Gore’s stake in the deal may net him $70 million.  Not surprisingly, much remains cloaked behind the deal’s burqa.  Some are criticizing Mr. Gore, who shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his fight against global warming.”  Yep, you read that right.  Manmade global warming’s evangelist-in-chief – complete with a Nobel Peace Prize for that scam – will pocket nearly $100 million dollars from Qatar-owned-and-based Al Jazeera, at least partially funded by Qatar’s crude oil production.  According to Mr. Gore, “Al-Jazeera shares Current TV’s mission to give voice to those who are not typically heard, to speak truth to power, to provide independent and diverse points of view.”
