Kennedy has less to offer than Palin; Joseph Wesloskie, Sr.; Beaver County Times; December 21, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“It’s interesting to see the media’s and the Democrats’ reaction to Caroline Kennedy’s wish to be the next appointed senator from New York.

“Apparently they all feel that she is eminently qualified to be appointed senator.  However, the same people felt Sarah Palin was not qualified to be vice president, even though she was a former mayor and current governor as opposed to Kennedy’s stellar qualifications of being a very, very rich woman who never even had to earn a dollar in her life.”

[RWC] I don’t know where Mr. Wesloski gets his news, but plenty of Democrats are dumping on Mrs. Schlossberg (Caroline Kennedy) because of “lack of experience.”  Other than the fact that people opposed to Gov. Palin and Mrs. Schlossberg use experience as a red herring, the situations are different.

In the case of Gov. Palin, her opponents may have had a point if it were not for the fact she had/has more executive “the buck stops here” experience than Messrs. Biden and Obama combined.  Heck, let’s throw in Messrs. Edwards, Gore, and Lieberman from the 2000 and 2004 elections for added measure.

In the case of Mrs. Schlossberg, when did experience become a requirement for appointment/election to the Senate?  The most obvious example is Al Franken in Minnesota.  Mr. Franken has zero public service experience and 50% plus or minus a few voters voted for him.  Former Sen. Bill Frist (R-TN) had no public office experience before he was elected in 1994.  Dr. Frist became Majority Leader in 2002.  This list goes on and on.

As I noted above, folks opposed to Gov. Palin and Mrs. Schlossberg are simply using experience to hide the true reasons for their opposition.

“This country is becoming a name-and-fame worshiping nation with the only qualifications needed are having a famous family name, being very wealthy or being a movie star.

“They say the people get the leaders they deserve.  Sadly, it’s true.”
