Science backs global warming; Bill White; Beaver County Times; March 19, 2007.

Apparently Mr. White is taking a break from his usual topic of bashing President Bush, former Sen. Rick Santorum, and/or Republicans in general.

This letter employs several of the tactics I noted in my paper on manmade global warming.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“What do the Environmental Protection Agency, Union of Concerned Scientists, NOAA, NASA, NRDC and the United Nations have in common? All have done scientific studies confirming global warming as it pertains to our planet’s health.”

[RWC] Is Mr. White writing about overall alleged global warming, or only the theory man is causing global warming?

“Opposite views on global warming come mainly from the big oil/energy sector, Wall Street demanding ever increasing profit standards and lobbyists paid to be their mouthpieces. They give no scientific evidence undermining global warming; none at all.”

[RWC] This is a bogus statement and Mr. White knows it.

“The intelligent design crowd tells us we have no control over our planet’s activities, that we must believe in a higher being to solve this issue.”

[RWC] Hmm, I’ve been following this topic pretty closely and I have to admit this is the first time I heard “the intelligent design crowd” linked to skepticism of manmade global warming. Indeed, manmade global warming evangelists have managed to convert various religious organizations to their faith.

“If our real purpose on Earth is to perpetuate the species into a more rational, healthier, loving society, then we must applaud scientific study, and dismiss hearsay and propaganda.”

[RWC] Does anyone care to guess who determines what is “scientific study” and “hearsay and propaganda?” As I’ve noted before, if the “scientific study” behind the theory of manmade global warming is so strong, why do folks like Mr. White so fear “hearsay and propaganda?” People like Mr. White should be happy to present their evidence and debate the skeptics. To date, manmade global warming’s evangelist-in-chief – Al Gore – refuses to engage in debates. Instead, people like Mr. White want all opposing science and opinion silenced. Sound familiar?

“Do we care of our family’s future, or do selfishness and greed come first?”

[RWC] Ah, the emotional plea. It’s not a real manmade global warming letter without a similar assertion.
