Founding Fathers wouldn’t want this; Joy Wintersgill; Beaver County Times; December 28, 2012.

The only previous Wintersgill letter of which I’m aware was entitled “Stop being homophobic.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I support our constitutional laws and The Bill of Rights.  I support the right to bear arms.  James Madison wrote the Bill of Rights in 1789.  It was approved Dec. 15, 1791, and supported by Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson.

“Now travel back in time to 1791.  Take a moment to think about our Founding Fathers laying the groundwork for our rights.

“I am sure that Madison, Hamilton and Jefferson did not fathom that Bushmaster rifles would be used to riddle classrooms with bullets and fill little children and school administrators with multiple bullets [sic] holes.  Children who were cowering in a corner with their teacher shielding them with her body to protect them.  Guns so powerful that can shoot out glass windows and allow someone access into a school.  A safe place.  A place my 5 and 9 year old go five days a week, 180 days a year.

“Do hunters need a Bushmaster to shoot a deer?  I don’t think so.  I think the deer wouldn’t be fit to eat if it was riddled with bullets.  God bless America.  We need it.  God bless the victims of gun violence.  And God bless the victims of Newtown, Conn.”

[RWC] I believe Ms. Wintersgill needs a refresher course on the purpose of the Second Amendment.
