War is hell; Alex Yawor; Beaver County Times; July 1, 2005.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“After reading about the latest deaths in Iraq, including the females that have lost their lives, I think I have put off this letter long enough.

“I am a former Marine sergeant of the Fourth Marine Division in World War II and this letter is to everyone who makes the stupid comparison between the people killed in World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War and the number killed in the present war.

“Does one of them, a retired sergeant, think the parents of the ones who died and the thousands who were maimed in this war are sleeping just fine, as he said that GWB is doing just because there numbers are so much smaller than the other three wars?  I don’t think so.  He used the word ‘freedom’ and our commander-in-chief keeps trying to convince the people that is the reason we went to war.

“Well, the information I got is that we went to war because of WMDs that Saddam had.  When WMDs were not found, we were made to believe that Saddam and Osama were working together to destroy the United States.  When that was found to be false, and only then, did GWB say that we went to war to free the Iraqi people.  For some reason, there are some people who just will not admit to this, including GWB.”

[RWC] Mr. Yawor needs to read the Iraq War Resolution Congress passed to give President Bush authority to attack Iraq.  The resolution lists 23 reasons we went to war, with WMD being #3.  The resolution also noted Iraq’s support for terrorism and that some members of al-Qaida resided in Iraq.

“Two friends of ours have sons in Iraq and another friend has a grandson there.  I pray for them and the rest of the young men and women every night.  There are times that I lay awake thinking about these three young men and what they are going through.  I can’t even try to imagine what the parents are going through.

“I wish GWB and all of those that are comparing the four wars a very good night and pleasant dreams.”
