Nation has too many czars; Witty Young; Beaver County Times; August 11, 2004.

Apparently Ms. Young doesn’t follow the news or chooses to ignore it.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Hearing about how much we need a czar at the head of our national intelligence agency gives one cause to reflect on the events of the day.

“We have the greatest intelligence agency in the world and it doesn’t need mending.

“What needs to be fixed is how information obtained by our CIA and the FBI is mishandled at the White House, particularly the Oval Office.”

[RWC] Every report issued this year, including David Kay’s and those of the 9/11 Commission and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, concluded the Bush administration did not distort the intelligence provided by the U.S. intelligence community.  Admittedly, you could come to a different conclusion if you only paid attention to the mainstream media and didn’t read the reports yourself.

I agree we probably have the best intelligence agencies, but the reports indicate we have problems to correct.  Even the best aren’t perfect.

“This country has too many czars already - MLB, NBA, NHL, NFL and the U.S. presidency, to name a few.  This country needs another czar the way we need President Bush to be re-elected.”

[RWC] Actually, we need President Bush re-elected, and czars are not elected.  I too, though, don’t know if another intelligence layer makes sense.

“Now they say the U.S. government needs an individual to oversee all the mistaken information provided by our CIA and FBI agents.  What they really want is a whitewashing of the White House.”

[RWC] What is a “whitewashing of the White House?”
