Bush’s blunder; Bobby Zeljak; Beaver County Times; October 31, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“I wonder if George W. Bush ever played cowboys and Indians when he was a little boy in Texas.  If you’re a cowboy, you pretend you’re after the bad Indians.

“We played war games as kids during World War II growing up in Logstown Plan II in Aliquippa.  Behind our homes there was a hill, and it looked like Iwo Jima to us.  My friends and I would play until dark, until whoever was the enemy was caught.

“Anyhow, it reminded me of George W. Bush playing war games in Iraq with our troops getting killed for his own political gain.”

[RWC] While folks like Mr. Zeljak like to tell us President Bush is “playing war games in Iraq with our troops getting killed for his own political gain,” they never tell us how leading a country into war is good for politics.  Do folks like Mr. Zeljak believe there’s a huge – or even small – voting block of people who long for war?

“In his latest speech to the nation, he said if Americans pull out from Iraq now, Iraq would be a stronghold for Islamic terrorists and disrupt and escalate terrorism in the free world.

“Bush already accomplished that by invading Iraq and making the Arab world hate the United States more than ever before.”

[RWC] This is another Democrat/liberal talking point.  Let’s do a brief recap.

·        1979: Muslims take over the U.S. embassy in Tehran and hold the 50+ Americans for 444 days.

·        1983: Hezbollah blows up the U.S. embassy in Beirut killing 17 Americans and 46 others.

·        1983: Hezbollah blows up the Marine barracks in Beirut killing 241 Americans.

·        1986: Libya blows up a nightclub in Berlin, killing two U.S. servicemen and injuring more than 50.

·        1988: Libya blows up Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing 270 (189 Americans).

·        1993: World Trade Center - six dead civilians

·        1993: U.S. peacekeepers in Somalia - 18 dead soldiers

·        1996: Khobar Towers military barracks in Saudi Arabia - 19 dead soldiers

·        1998: On February 23rd, Osama bin Laden declared war on the United States.

·        1998: U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania - 224 dead African civilians

·         2000: USS Cole - 17 dead sailors

·         2001: September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and foiled attack on another unknown Washington, DC, target – approximately 3,000 dead civilians

Given that record over a period of more than 20 years, exactly how do we make our enemies “hate the United States more than ever before?”

“The United States should have stayed on course with Special Forces and gone after the main target and Osama Bin Laden and kept our troops at home and our borders and shores secure.”

[RWC] Exactly how do you use “Special Forces” and keep “our troops at home” at the same time?  Does Mr. Zeljak really believe terrorism will stop with the capture or death of bin Laden?

Mr. Zeljak seems to forget we kept up our troop strength in Afghanistan.

How would keeping “our troops at home” make “our borders and shores secure?”

“The next president is going to a have real mess on his hands because of Bush’s blunder.”

[RWC] Yeah, not like the bed of roses Bill Clinton left. <g>

“I think what it’s going to take get the ‘Terminator’ Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Do not have an election.  Just give him the job.  What’s the difference?  Bush stole the last two elections.  The last three or four presidents were a bunch of wimps.  Let Arnold pick Hulk Hogan as vice president and Jesse Ventura as secretary of state.”

[RWC] “Bush stole the last two elections?”  What is it with Democrats/liberals?  It seems whenever they lose an election, it’s because a Republican “stole” it.  Here’s a partial list of Democrat voter suppression efforts from the Republican National Committee.

“The last three or four presidents were a bunch of wimps?”  The last four presidents were Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush.  As a refresher course, Mr. Reagan stood up to our enemies and deserves a chunk of the credit for the end of the Soviet Union.  When Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait and threatened other Persian Gulf states, George H.W. Bush led an international coalition to drive Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait.  Oh yeah, he was also a World War II fighter pilot.  After the 9/11 attacks, President Bush instituted a policy designed to go after terrorists on their ground instead of waiting for them to attack us on our ground as well as throughout the world.  Mr. Bush was also a fighter pilot in the Texas Air National Guard.  Mr. Clinton evaded (an illegal act) the Vietnam draft by deceiving an Army colonel into admitting him to the ROTC program.  Mr. Clinton then ran back to school in England and actively protested the U.S. government.  To make it even better – and after he was 100% sure he couldn’t be drafted, Mr. Clinton wrote a letter to the aforementioned colonel describing how Mr. Clinton duped him.1  I don’t like to get into name-calling, but maybe only one out of the “last three or four presidents” was a wimp.

“Elections are a waste of taxpayers’ time and money.  Look what’s been going on in the United States for the last 20 years.  We are going down the sewer real quick.  The public should be so tired of all the political commercials on TV the past month.”

[RWC] “Elections are a waste of taxpayers’ time and money?”  Written as a true liberal.
