Bill boosts bargaining rights; Chuck Zielinske; Beaver County Times; September 30, 2007.

An editor’s note asserts, “The writer is treasurer of the Pittsburgh Tower Local of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Recently, the House of Representatives passed the Federal Aviation Reauthorization Act of 2007 by a 267-151 vote margin.

“In addition to funding the FAA for the next four years, this bill will restore fair and equal collective bargaining rights to all FAA employees.

“On behalf of the air traffic controllers and technicians from Pittsburgh International and Allegheny airports, we would like to thank U.S. Reps. Jason Altmire, Mike Doyle, Phil English and Tim Murphy for their strong bipartisan support of this bill.”

[RWC] While this is clearly a plus for union management, what’s in it for the individual employee?  Is he still required to be a union member to get/hold a job, or has his right to choose been restored?
