McCAIN A MAVERICK?  MAYBE; Cory Nealon, Times Staff; Beaver County Times; June 7, 2008.

Earlier this year when Mr. McCain became the presumptive Republican nominee for president, Rush Limbaugh wondered how long it would take for the mainstream media to turn on Mr. McCain.  After all, with their preferred Republican candidate in position, the MSM could now concentrate on getting their real candidate elected, and that meant the end of any positive McCain coverage.  As a reminder, Mr. McCain is the MSM’s current “favorite” Republican because he routinely – but certainly not always – took positions unpopular with conservatives and sometimes with President Bush and the Republican Party.  It was the MSM that gave Mr. McCain the label of “maverick” and considered it a positive label.

Specifically, Mr. Limbaugh wondered when the MSM would “discover” Mr. McCain wasn’t really a “maverick” after all.  Well, now we know.  It took only a few days after Barack Obama became the presumptive Democrat nominee.  It’s also no coincidence one of Mr. Obama’s tactics is to portray a McCain administration as the equivalent of President Bush’s third term.  After all, that tactic won’t work if the MSM continues to portray Mr. McCain as a “maverick.”
